Here is my Daybook entry for today ~
Outside my window. . .the sun is trying to break through the clouds, Jeff is starting up the lawnmower and there is a big turtle in a box on the front porch that we found in the yard yesterday.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about our fun day ahead – our family’s second annual Labor Day Cup, filled with silly games, races and prizes. There will be trophies for the winning team – I wonder who it will be this year???
~~~~~~~~~~
From the learning room. . .we learned all about turtles yesterday as we observed and tried to identify our visitor of the day. Did you know that a turtle sheds the skin on it’s shell and that they like to wink? Sarah drew a picture of our houseguest for our family nature notebook. Final lesson planning is almost done. We will begin school next week and I will post a bit about our plans for the year soon.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .the Labor Day holiday today, when Jeff can stay home from work and make fun memories with us, and for his cleaning up the kitchen for me this morning, so that I was able to start cooking without having to clear the counters first!
~~~~~~~~~~
From the kitchen. . .bread baking and eggs boiling to make egg salad for lunch. Dinner tonight will be take-out pizza after the trophies are awarded, with funnel cakes for dessert – mmmm!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .yellow t-shirt and denim shorts.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .menus for the week and a shopping list.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to run to the grocery store for a few items before settling into the day.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .all of your wonderful comments on your favorite things about Fall (see my Autumn Giveaway post) – they are all so beautifully descriptive and are blessing me so much!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .that we will get some precious rain this week from the remnants of Hurricane Gustav. . . and some cooler weather is nice to hope for, too!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hearing. . .a discussion on the virtues of funnel cakes, balloons being bounced around in the living room, the lawnmower running outside, Macey running around like a wild cat.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .children decorating team t-shirts for the games today, balloons laying around waiting to be hung outside for the “festivities”, water balloons being filled in preparation for two of the games, Jack’s dog run almost complete in the yard, and the excitement of the day in the air.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .country magazines – one of my simple pleasures in life is to pick up a copy of “Country Sampler”, or “Country Home”, or a new quilt magazine and slowly browse through the pages.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .Ladies Bible Study, finalize my school lesson plans, prepare notebooks and supplies for school to start next Monday, begin an afternoon quiet time for myself, and begin Fall decorating!
~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a picture thought I am sharing. . .

Our Fall Spider Lillies have come up and are blooming – my promise of the changing seasons.

What a great idea. . . the Labor Day Cup! Sounds like a recipe for great family memories and fun rivalry! We had a baby turtle visit our front door a couple of months ago, too. The pics are on my site. Don’t ya just love those free, impromptu learning lessons from the Lord? Have a blessed and productive week!

my dd1 LOVES turtles. I’ll have to ask her if she knows about the winking. Great pic too.
Have a wonderful week.
