Thankful Thursday ~ July 8th

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

My Dad went to be with the Lord last year at this time, and my thoughts have been very much of him in recent days. I am devoting my thankful list this week to my Dad, who will forever be a part of me and will live in my heart and thoughts until we are reunited in heaven.

~ I am thankful for Dad’s comforting arms throughout my life – from the time I was born up until the day he passed away – being held by him always made me feel protected, safe, and loved – it is a memory I will treasure always.

~ I am thankful for the way Dad cared for and provided for his family – working hard his whole life to care for his wife and four children.

~ I am thankful that Dad grew his family up involved in the church, and was an example of service and leadership to us.

~ I am thankful for Dad’s listening ear – the way he lovingly discussed our troubles with us.

~ Along with that, I am thankful for Dad’s wisdom and guidance in my life and that he was always willing to help out when asked.

~ I am thankful that Dad taught me to be organized – maybe more caught than taught – he was a master organizer, which I always admired.

~ I am thankful for Dad’s sense of humor – I always loved it when he laughed and my memories of those special times are especially dear.

~ I am thankful for Dad’s faith in the Lord, especially in his later years. It was a joy to me to share that faith with him, and a true comfort in his passing – to know that he is with the Lord and is experiencing all of the joys of heaven.

I heard something on a radio program yesterday that really touched my heart. The speaker said that the people in our lives that we love – our spouse, children, parents, siblings, friends, relatives – are gifts from God to us for a time. They are His and we are blessed to share our lives with them. Their passing away is only a temporary separation. The reality is that we will be with them again for all eternity, if they (and we) have placed our trust in Christ for salvation from our sins. I hope that this will bless your heart the way it blessed mine!

Thankful Thursday ~ July 1st

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

This Independence Day weekend leads me to thinking about all of the freedoms that I am thankful for. Some of them follow ~

~ I am thankful for the freedom to serve God.

~ I am thankful for the freedom to speak about what I believe.

~ I am thankful for the freedom to teach my children at home and pass down God’s truths to them each and every day.

~ I am thankful for the freedom to choose my path in life (prayerfully), rather than having my government choose it for me.

~ I am thankful for the freedom to meet together with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

~ I am thankful for the men and women who have died securing, insuring, and protecting these freedoms for me.

~ I am thankful that our country’s founders believed that God is the sovereign ruler of our land and fashioned our laws and government to reflect this.

~ I am thankful that God is still and always will be the sovereign ruler of our land, no matter what may befall us in the future.

Thankful Thursday ~ May 20

Here is my thankful list for today ~

~ I am thankful for the return of my camera – back from being repaired and ready to go to work.

~ I am thankful for my new washer and dryer and the help they are to me.

~ I am thankful for calm, peaceful moments amidst the chaos of everyday life.

~ I am thankful for Matthew 11:28-30 ~

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

~ I am thankful for my van – back from the repair shop sporting a new radiator, which seems to have finally fixed the problems we’ve been having with it in the last few months.

~ I am thankful for the beginning of summer coming upon us – for relaxed days, swimming and playing together.

~ I am thankful for each new day – which brings with it opportunities to love and grow.

~ I am thankful that even though I am so imperfect, God loves me and is constantly working in my life for my good and His plan.

Thankful Thursday ~ May 6

Here is my thankful list for today ~

~ I am thankful for afternoons spent outside while the children play.

~ I am thankful for the lessons the Lord is teaching me through our “Excellent Wife” study.

~ I am thankful for God’s sustaining love, which is always mine regardless of my feelings or circumstances.

~ I am thankful for my Mom, for her love and care throughout my life.

~ I am thankful for the songs of the birds outside my window.

~ I am thankful for the children God has blessed me with and the joys and trials that come with the priviledge of being a mother.

~ I am thankful for a husband who does nice things for me – like washing all of the dishes last night so that I would come home from church to a clean kitchen counter.

~ I am thankful for the everyday flow of our days – simple pleasures.

Thankful Thursday ~ April 29

Here is my thankful list for today ~

I am thankful for:

~ the lovely weather we’ve been having.

~ my front porch.

~ the pretty flowers around the yard providing beauty for the eye and a fragrant aroma to the air.

~ God providing a wonderful new home for Kiara (Laura’s dog) this week (we’ve been looking for one for months), that has greatly reduced the stress level in the house.

~ God’s financial guidance and wisdom, and his constant provision for his children.

~ a husband with a heart that trusts God with everything in his life.

~ our son Robert’s new car, replacing his old one that was way past ready to go out to pasture, and the peace of mind this brings his mother.

~ healthy children – except for the ongoing skinned knees and elbows that are the result of much time playing outdoors.

~ evenings enjoying “The Waltons” with my sewing in my lap.

~ kitties sitting in open windows.

Thankful Thursday ~ March 25

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

This weekend is my daughter Sarah’s 12th birthday. My thankful thoughts today center around the blessing she is to us ~

~ I am thankful for Sarah’s sweet spirit.

~ I am thankful for her sensitivity – although challenging at times – she feels things deeply (like her mom).

~ I am thankful for her generosity – she loves to give gifts and do special things for people.

~ I am thankful for Sarah’s gift of teaching – she is a wonderful teacher to the younger children when she frequently sits down with them to share her knowledge.

~ I am thankful that she loves to spend time with Mom – her greatest pleasure is to spend a “girl day” out with me.

~ I am thankful for her lovely smile and happy laugh.

~ I am thankful for her love for the Lord and her desire to walk with Him.

~ I am thankful for all of the lessons that the Lord teaches me through my daughter.

~ I am thankful for my children – for all of their different qualities that make each one unique and special.

~ I am thankful for my husband – who works hard each day to provide for our family.

~ I am thankful for my mom – who is such an example to me of strength and faith as we walk through our grief.

~ I am thankful for God’s protection and provision in my life.

~ I am thankful for simple evenings at home with my family.

~ I am thankful for bright and sunny spring days that lift my spirits.

~ I am thankful for the joy and satisfaction of creating something beautiful.

~ I am thankful for the gentle lessons that God teaches to me along the way.

Today I am thankful for ~

~ the sun shining and the earth coming alive again after the winter.

~ simple days spent with my family.

~ time to work on my quilt.

~ children on the mend after weeks of illness.

~ kitties that snuggle up on the couch beside me.

~ the joy and peace that God gives us when we rest in His grace and trust Him with our lives.

~ simple pleasures.

~ porch weather!

Thankful Thursday ~ March 4

“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

Today is my son, Tommy’s 13th birthday, so my thankful thoughts naturally are centering on him. Poor guy has been sick on the couch for the last 24 hours, but seems to be perking up a little and may be able to enjoy his birthday a little bit today after all. Here is my thankful list in honor of my sweet son, Tommy -

~ I am thankful for Tommy’s life and the blessing he is to our family.

~ I am thankful for his easy-going nature and his helpful spirit.

~ I am thankful for his love of family, tradition, and celebrating.

~ I am thankful for his spriritual growth in the the past year, and his committment to Christ.

~ I am thankful for the Lord’s protection over his life during his birth 13 years ago (he was my only breech baby/C-section birth).

~I am thankful for his wonderful sense of humor, and his love of laughter.

~ I am thankful for his big blue eyes that remind me of my grandfather when I look at him.

~ I am thankful to God for blessing us with such a special person as Tommy in our family!

Thankful Thursday ~ February 25

~ a nice warm (working) heater cozying up my home.

~ Spring coming around the corner.

~ progress on several projects around the house.

~ meaningful days and relaxing evenings.

~ challenges that make me depend on God.

~ the way Scripture speaks to my heart when I read it.

~ watching my children grow.

~ date night out with my sweetie.
