The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ October 28

Yes, I know. . . I said I’d be back soon. . . and it’s been longer than soon. But, here I am now, and what better way is there to jump start the blog than by joining back into the Simple Woman’s Daybook! So, towards that end, here is my Daybook entry for today ~

Outside my window. . .sunshine and cool/chilly weather – a lovely Fall day outside. A blanket of leaves is covering the front yard and pond area – one of my favorite sights each year. Jeff and a friend from church are playing in the mud, digging a giant hole under the foundation of the house. It is muddy because we have a water leak about a foot and a half in, under the side of the house – they are digging their way to the break and hopefully we will have it fixed soon!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about plans for this week for home and school.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .the blessing of our church family and their willingness to bless others with their skills and knowledge (especially when it comes to plumbing leaks!)
~~~~~~~~~~
In the kitchen. . .Nachos and Burritos tonight for dinner.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .pink sweater, white t-shirt and jeans with socks – too chilly for bare feet today!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .more peace for myself by decluttering my home – a slow and sometimes overwhelming task. Also have many quilt projects ongoing – hope to get some pictures up soon.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .working my way through Jennifer Chiaverini’s Elm Creek Quilts series, currently reading “Sonoma Rose”. I love this series, especially the historical novels.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .to make time for blogging on a more regular basis again!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .November starting this week – one of my favorite months of the year.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the learning room. . .lots of interesting lessons going on – I need to write a post about what everyone is studying this year. A few snippets from this week are Johnny Appleseed and apples, Civil War time period, Eric Liddell, Hobbits, Insects, and Math subjects ranging from learning to subtract up to Algebra.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .all decorated for Fall (maybe a photo tour is called for), a few lingering coughs that don’t seem to want to leave, a kitchen counter full of mugs – hot chocolate season has begun again!
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .one that I often quote to a certain daughter (especially at Math time) – “Whether you think you can or think you can’t – you are right.” ~ Henry Ford.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .cool Fall evenings with a candle burning, hot chocolate poured, my favorite red quilt on my lap and a classic movie on the screen (usually “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” this time of year).
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .school work, cleaning, sewing (I hope!), ice skating, library, our annual Fall Festival to attend, and celebrating Anna’s 9th birthday!
~~~~~~~~~~
A picture thought for today. . .

Yummy Autumn M&M cookies about ready to bake!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ March 12

Here is my Daybook entry for today ~

Outside my window. . .A beautiful, beautiful day ~ especially welcome after the dark, rainy weekend we had. We are expecting temperatures in the 70′s all week. I am on the front porch enjoying it all; David is in his rain boots having a wonderful time jumping in puddles on the driveway – classic. The yard is very green and there is just a hint of green on the trees where baby leaves are springing forth. Blue skies and birds singing – I may be out here all day today.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about school. I usually start analyzing about this time of year – how curriculums are working, how school and life are blending – thinking about whether to change things up a bit or leave them alone for next year.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .my two younger teenagers – Tommy and Sarah – who are having birthdays this month – Tommy turning 15 and Sarah turning 14 – where do the years go?
~~~~~~~~~~
In the kitchen. . .cooking out Cheeseburgers on the grill tonight (a special request from Anna), with corn on the cob and garlic roasted potato wedges. I was thinking about baking something for dessert, but I don’t think I can bring myself to go inside to do it!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .pink shirt and denim capris.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .journal pages for my daily journal; hoping to get some quilting in this week.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .rereading “Pocketful of Pinecones” by Karen Andreola – one of my all time favorite books!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .to get some prep work on the garden done this week – it’s time to get things planted.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .dinner tonight – first cooked out burgers of the year!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am learning. . .about fresh garlic. I have only used it once in my life and my hands smelled for days, so I have been content to use garlic powder and salt for years, but I am wanting to start to use fresh, and so am educating myself on the best way to handle it and use it in my cooking – so thankful for the Internet whenever I need to learn something new.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .roller skates, dishwasher and washing machine are loaded and running, fresh sheets are on my bed (a spring day like this just calls for fresh linens!), windows open to let in the fresh air – and so, kitties are sitting in those open windows.
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from Me, you can do nothing.” -John 15:5
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .folding clean laundry fresh out of the dryer.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .Spring Break! Spending as much time as possible outside, still thinking of fun things to do – maybe a picnic in the yard, a park trip, going out for ice cream. Gardening, sewing, reading and relaxing.
~~~~~~~~~~
A picture thought for today. . .

The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ February 20

Hello! I hope you are having a great start to your week! Here is my Daybook entry for today ~

Outside my window. . .Sun and clouds today, alternating. Jack is playing with our neighbors’ dog – a big white Great Pyrenees who is super sweet. Robins are hopping around the damp yard looking for worms.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about birthday plans for Tommy and Sarah, whose birthdays are coming up in March.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .my new dishwasher that is being delivered this week! The old one finally died, although it deserves a rest after all of it’s hard work.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the kitchen. . .Barbecue chicken on the grill tonight with rice and a green salad.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .pink t-shirt, jeans, dark blue sweater.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .nothing, which is why . . .
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to be planning a quilting day for myself very soon.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wondering. . .what to plant in the garden this year.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .still reading “You Never Stop Being a Parent” (Jim Newheiser and Elyse Fitzpatrick) – enjoying it so far.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .to get by the nursery and pick up some onions to get in the ground as soon as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .visiting my quilt shops this weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am learning. . .that I have much more energy when I don’t drink anything but water on a daily basis.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .blankets laying around on the couches – the kids snuggle up in them all day long, and they seem to always be out, even though we do fold them all up once a day!; Laura and Jeff hauling a file cabinet up the stairs to her room; still a few boxes of toys laying around to go through for Anna and David’s room, but mostly their room is cleaned out and organized (again!).
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” ~ Philippians 4: 8 one of my favorite verses.
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .painting my nails with mauvy pink nail polish.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .shopping, cleaning, schooling, skating, ballet, and Michael’s final basketball game of the season.
~~~~~~~~~~
A peek into my day. . .grocery shopping, washing dishes (by hand! – remember broken dishwasher), laundry, and a relaxing evening with my family.
~~~~~~~~~~
Our wall of Valentine hearts – we recorded ways that God has shown His love to us.
The Simple Woman’s Daybook ~ February 13
Good Evening! Here is my Daybook entry for today ~
Outside my window. . .cold, wet, and soggy, after last night’s rain/snow (which melted as soon as it hit the ground, but was pretty coming down!).
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about yesterday’s Sunday School lesson in Galatians 3, especially verse 3 – “Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?” We find it so easy to accept our salvation by grace, but then try to grow ourselves spriritually all by ourselves, rather than realizing that our growth is also by grace.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .my warm, cozy house on a cold winter night.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the kitchen. . .Taco Soup with crackers was just right for dinner on this cold and misty evening. “Super Chocolate Cookies” (basically chocolate cookies with M & M’s, peanuts, and raisins) for dessert.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .navy shirt and sweater with blue jeans.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .clean laundry and dishes for my family.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to be looking for things to get rid of around the house.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wondering. . .if Matthew’s cold is any better today – he was not feeling well at all yesterday. Time for a mommy to son text message.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .I picked up “You Never Stop Being a Parent – Thriving in Relationship with Your Adult Children” by Jim Newheiser and Elyse Fitzpatrick in the church library yesterday, and will be reading/skimming it this week.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .to see the sun tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .celebrating Valentine’s Day with my family tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am learning. . .that perfection is not a reality in this life, and that my best is good enough.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .a Mario puzzle is in progress on the table, bags of toys from the littles’ room to go through and organize/pare down are on the living room floor, a pretty fabric Valentines garland is draped on the stair rail.
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .“How comprehensive is the love of Jesus! There is no part of His people’s interests which He does not consider, and there is nothing which concerns their welfare which is not important to Him.” – Charles Spurgeon
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .playing Tiny Tower on my IPad.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .ice skating, ballet, taking Sarah and David to friends’ birthday parties, basketball, a sleepover at our house for Michael and two of his friends, and celebrating Valentine’s Day tomorrow.
~~~~~~~~~~
A peek into my day. . .spent most of the day on household duties – finding receipts for store returns, laundry, washing dishes, and precooking and freezing ground beef and chicken for later this week.
~~~~~~~~~~

Sleepy Edward snuggled up at Laura’s feet at the end of the recliner.

Here is my Daybook entry for today ~

Outside my window. . .the kids were just filling up water balloons and chasing each other around the yard. Nice temperatures forecast for the entire week!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .that a 48 hour day would better fit my to-do list!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .my home and it’s coziness.
~~~~~~~~~~
In the kitchen. . .a roast is in the crockpot for dinner tonight, along with rice and a salad ~ maybe brownies for dessert.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wearing. . .pink t-shirt and jeans.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .still working on the January mini-quilt when I have the time and energy.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to take the girls to see “The Beauty and the Beast” at the theater this week, followed by a visit to Bath and Body Works.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wondering. . .where the lids to my containers disappear to – I can never seem to find the right lid when I need it.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .“Little Farm by the Sea” (Kay Chorao) with David and “Very Last First Time” (Jan Andrews and Ian Wallace) with Anna and Michael.
~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .my movie night tonight after the kids are tucked in bed.

~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .laundry and dishes being cleared, still those Christmas boxes waiting to go up in the attic (due to a missing lid!), kids back inside and now sitting around in 3D glasses watching “I Love Lucy” re-run.
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.” ~ 1 Peter 2:24
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .“I Love Lucy” re-runs.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .ballet, ice skating, movies, schooling, sewing, cleaning and spending time outdoors in the 70 degree weather!
~~~~~~~~~~
A peek into my day. . .see my picture below . . .
~~~~~~~~~~

This is how my bed looks pretty much every day after we’re done with school!

Outside my window. . .the sun is shining, there are two little grave stones under the big tree in the front yard for Missy and Cookie, lawn chairs blown over by the windy day we had yesterday, birds pecking around on the ground under the feeders for the last of the seeds.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thinking. . .about school lessons and plans for the week.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am thankful for. . .Crockpots – it’s a wonderful feeling to know that dinner is already cooking and dinner prep will be quick tonight.

~~~~~~~~~~
I am creating. . .a new mini quilt for January out of lovely blue fabrics, crystal jewels, and fabric paint.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am going. . .to have to address the huge mess in the little kids’ room this week! Ugh!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am wondering. . .how I can get those littles to keep their room clean – an age old dilemma.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am reading. . .Philippians in my Bible.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am hoping. . .to take the kids to the nature museum this week if weather and life permits.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am looking forward to. . .sewing time!
~~~~~~~~~~
I am learning. . .that too much stuff is more trouble than it’s worth.
~~~~~~~~~~
Around the house. . .a few straggling Christmas boxes to go up in the attic, Tommy’s keyboard on the dining room table, children starting their schoolwork.
~~~~~~~~~~
A favorite quote for today. . .“A happy life is made of little things.” – Carol Holmes
~~~~~~~~~~
One of my favorite things. . .berry wreaths – I have them all over the house.
~~~~~~~~~~
A few plans for the rest of the week. . .normal week – schooling, cleaning, mothering, and driving to our various activities.
~~~~~~~~~~
A peek into my day. . .getting the kids started on their schoolwork and then into the kitchen. I’ll need to run to the grocery store later today and hope to spend some time outdoors if possible – it’s another mild and pleasant day today weatherwise!
~~~~~~~~~~
